Skin Rejuvenation in Toronto, ON That’s Safe for Any Skin Type or Shade
Microneedling is a non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment method used to kickstart or accelerate the body’s natural processes of skin cell regeneration and neocollagenesis. There are many unique features of microneedling when compared to other dermatological treatments. Since it is not light or pigment-based in modality (as laser treatments such as Fraxel® or Clear + Brilliant® are), microneedling may be suitable for even sensitive skin types and skin of colour. It also carries minimal risk of hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation.
The benefits of microneedling include:
- Reduction in the appearance of fine lines, enlarged pores, acne, or certain other types of scars, stretch marks, and excess sebum/oil
- Skin tightening and thickening from neocollagenesis
- Minimal downtime
At North York Dermatology Clinic, we pair traditional microneedling with the application of radiofrequency (RF) energy to gently stimulate the skin with the application of heat. Gentle thermal stimulation of the skin is proven to boost neocollagenesis, so pairing microneedling with RF energy can provide more noticeable skin benefits within a shorter period of time.
Why We Chose the Intensif System
The innovative Intensif system was created by global medical device maker EndyMed and is the first FDA-cleared device on the market that is a motorized and non-insulated microneedling system powered with RF energy.
What to Expect from a Treatment Session
Before treatment, we may apply a topical anesthetic to enhance patient comfort.
Intensif’s handpiece houses 25 gold-plated microneedles that create carefully controlled microinjuries as it is passed along the skin. The system is built so that it requires fewer passes per treatment than other microneedling systems, reducing treatment times and further maximizing patient comfort.
With each pass, the needles are used as conduits to deliver short pulses of RF energy, allowing the heat to penetrate into deeper layers of the skin as compared to applying the energy on the skin’s surface.
What to Expect After a Treatment Session
Mild to moderate effects such as redness, spot crusting, or sensitivity typically fade within the first three days after treatment. Improvements such as skin tightening, radiance, clarity, and pore reduction will be noticeable within the first week of treatment and can last up to eight months after the last session.
A course of microneedling typically consists of three to five sessions every four weeks, depending on how quickly each patient responds to treatment. PRP, lasers, or injectable treatments such as BOTOX® or dermal fillers may also be included in a patient’s treatment protocol depending on their skin characteristics and goals.
